I took an intro to photography class in my first year of journalism school. Other than that, I’ve learned on the job, trying new things with new angles. I've started to look forward to taking photos. I'll always love to write, but it's even more rewarding to pair a photo I took with a story I wrote.
Much of the credit for my quick improvement in sports photography should be attributed to Hill Country News publisher Scott W. Coleman, who is also a professional photographer. I've probably been annoying asking for tips and picking his brain about this facet of journalism.
Some sports, like baseball, golf and soccer, are easier for me to shoot than others that are in dark gyms. Many times I'm in the press box keeping stats as opposed to being on the sideline with my camera.
Below is just a snippet of my work from a variety of sports.
Football

Baseball

Basketball

Golf

Soccer

Volleyball

Track, Wrestling, Swimming, etc.
